International Awards - Nobel Prize


Alfred Nobel (1833-1896) was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on October 21,  1833. He is known for inventing dynamite. Nobel held 355 different patents by his  name, dynamite being the most famous. Alfred Nobel died on 10 December 1896 at  the age of 63 years. 

∙ The Nobel Prizes are given under the will of Alfred Bernard Nobel, who died in  1896 

∙ Nobel Prizes are given each year in six fields. The Nobel Prizes for Peace,  Physics, Chemistry, Medicine and Literature were started in 1901. The Nobel  Prize for Economics was started in1968.The prize awarding bodies are  


  1. The Swedish Academy of Literature awards the prize in Literature. 

  2. The Royal Swedish Academy off Sciences awards the prize in Physics  and Chemistry. 

  3. The Nobel Assembly of Karolinska Chirugical (Swedan)  awards the prize in Medicine (Physiology). 

  4. The bank of Sweden awards the prize in Economics. 

  5. The committee of the Norwegian Parliament , awards the prize for Peace.


Each recipient, or laureate, receives a gold medal, a diploma and a sum of  money, which depends on the Noble Foundations income that year. The nobel  prize amt for US $1.1  


∙ The awards presented in Stock Holm in an annual ceremony on 10th dec, the  anniversary of Noble‟s death.  

∙ The awards can be given to up to 3 persons in the same field at the same time.  The nobel prize was not awarded between 1940&1942 due to the outbreak of  world war II.
